Goldendoodle generations refer to the type of Goldendoodle puppy you have. In other words, how much poodle/retriever is in each puppy. Reputable breeders keep details and records so they know how much of each parent is in each Goldendoodle puppy. Cedar Doodles Essential goldendoodle supplies

Golden retriever coats are made of fur- which holds dander. These dogs have a double layered coat that sheds 2x/year.

Poodle coats consist of hair. This doesn't have dander, and these dogs in place of shedding require grooming. This type of coat is what people describe when they are looking for a hypoallergenic dog. The hair, is an allergy friendly coat.

When these parent breeds ( the golden retriever and the poodle are crossed) it creates a mixed breed that has a mixed coat. Part retriever and poodle. This would be an F1 goldendoodle. It's important to remember that the more poodle the more hypoallergenic the coat is, due to the higher percentage of hair.

If someone has severe allergies we would always recommend having a dog that is at least an F1b (75% poodle, 25% golden retriever) or higher in percentage of poodle, such as a multigen. Where both parents are goldendoodles and have a high percentage of poodle at least 80-85%.

It is important to remember that when looking for a goldendoodle puppy that is allergy friendly, goldendoodles need to have both copies of furnishings. Furnishings are what make a goldendoodle hair tight ( less likely to shed) and give them their signature fluffy look.

Yes ! Where a goldendoodle has hair not fur, they will not shed as frequently as their parent breed the golden retriever. Because of this, the goldendoodle puppy you have will require grooming. The frequency of grooming will depend on the generation, coat, and type of hair.

Grooming is defined as " having your goldendoodles hair cut, and bathed". Goldendoodles should be groomed according to their coat type. Remember the curlier the goldendoodle the more frequently they will need to be brushed and groomed. Plan on grooming a curly coated goldendoodle every 3-4 weeks. A goldendoodle with a straight/ wavy coat could go 4-6 weeks between grooming depending on their coat. Visit with your groomer to set up the best schedule for your goldendoodle puppy.

At Cedar Doodles we always recommend as soon as they are able. When they are fully vaccinated. Until they are fully vaccinated, trim their nails at home and brush them during the week. This will prepare them for grooming.

The frequency of brushing your Goldendoodle puppy depends on their coat type. Curly-coated puppies need brushing 2-3 times a week, while wavy-coated puppies require brushing 1-2 times a week. Always brush in a line and ensure you're not just brushing the top layer.
